Ancient Greece
![]() | Ancient Greece OverviewAncient Greece was an empire that lasted from 776-323 BC. Because of the geography, being surrounded by the Mediterranean, Ionian & Aegen Seas and also the mountains, it consisted of many Polis or city-states. Some well-known Polis are the cities of Athens and Sparta. After the defeat of Persia in 479 BC, Athens grew in power and wealth. Sparta, feared this power and declared war on Athens in 431 BC. Athens didn't have the manpower to compare to Sparta's army, but did have a well developed navy. After years of battle, Athens surrendered to Sparta in 404 BC, ending the Peloponnesian War. |
